Umbra Expands its Team with Former Deputy Director of Raytheon
Umbra Lab, Inc. (Umbra) announced the addition of Marcus Chevitarese as Vice President of Engineering. Chevitarese was most recently a Senior Engineering Manager and Deputy Director of Engineering at Raytheon.
Umbra is a Santa Barbara, California based technology company, which is launching a constellation of next generation synthetic aperture radar (SAR) microsatellites with a higher performance than any operating commercial SAR mission.
Umbra aims to pass its technological and cost advantages down to customers in business-to-business and business-to-government industries, by offering a high quality low priced data and empowering the GEOINT to make better informed decisions while expanding their existing analytics channels and business relationships.
“While doing my due diligence before joining Umbra, I realized that the elegance and innovation of Umbra’s SAR payload and microsatellite support the projected performance and its approach will deliver an unprecedented value proposition for consumers of SAR data. This will enable many new opportunities, with global impact. I couldn’t say no to that!” said Chevitarese.
As Vice President of Engineering, Chevitarese manages Umbra’s rapidly growing technical team and is responsible for project management, ensuring that the product vision is realized through excellence in execution. “Marcus and the engineering team as a whole are exceptional and have exceeded every expectation,” said David Langan, Co-Founder and CEO of Umbra. Together with Langan, Chevitarese is developing the technical strategy and a technical roadmap, which will facilitate Umbra’s continued innovation and technical leadership.
“Marcus is the kind of guy people stand up for when he walks into a room, he is someone for whom we have tremendous respect. Umbra is very fortunate to have him,” said Umbra’s Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Gabe Dominocielo.
Before joining Umbra, Chevitarese was a Senior Engineering Manager and Deputy Director of Engineering at Raytheon Vision Systems. Prior to Raytheon, he held engineering roles at Ericsson, Takata’s Automotive System Lab and Autoliv Electronics. Chevitarese holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Computer Engineering degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and has completed the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) Aerospace Project Management Program.
